INTERA™ Design Introduction

INTERA (Interior Architecture) Design products are intended to work within the framework of a popular wall plate system used extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada . This system is commonly referred to as Decora®, a brand of Leviton® (a leading U.S. manufacturer of electrical supplies). The Decora system is characterized by a nicely rounded rectangular cutout in a single-gang finishing plate. Growing requirements offer additional gang cut-outs. For example, a three-gang wide wall plate offers three cutouts that can be filled with a variety of inserts. Other manufacturers also offer products that fit into a Decora-type system.

The ALTINEX line of INTERA products is meant to bridge the gap between standard electrical plate interconnects and those required in professional audiovisual installations. This allows a systems designer to integrate AV elements into a commonly used wall plate system while maintaining a consistent look.

Core components of the INTERA system include the ISC2000 and the ISV3000. These products offer active circuitry behind the wall plate connectors that amplify video signals and balance audio signals, enabling longer cable runs to a projector or to distribution equipment.

The INTERA line includes some specialty pass-through plates that are particular to audiovisual applications while other accessory parts in the INTERA line are not specialized, but offered for convenience.

To select the proper INTERA solution, it is important to review all of the signal and connector types that are needed for your application as well as overall system requirements. For example, for computer video and audio inputs, if the cable run is fairly short between the plate and a buffering device, it is quite likely that you can use the ISC2100 (a pass-through plate) instead of the ISC2000 (an active buffer).

INTERA Design parts are currently offered in two colors – white and ivory (off-white) – to best match the decor of the room in which the installation is made. For some snap-in type pass-through connectors, additional colors are available on the market for specialized applications.
