The CP7317RS is an RS-232 I/O Controller. It is designed to be used in a variety of different applications to provide control capabilities or to expand the capabilities of an existing third-party control system or a computer.
The CP7317RS offers a fully programmable, bi-directional RS-232 port on a female 9-pin D connector. The CP7317RS can be controlled using this port at a variety of standard transmission rates including: 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, and 9600 baud. It also provides the facility to custom set any baud rate up to 19200.
The CP7317RS provides four digital I/O ports on male 9-pin D connectors. On each of these connectors, eight of the pins can be individually addressed and programmed to be inputs or outputs. The output pins can be set to "high" or "low." The ninth pin is a ground. The "Power ON" status of each pin is also fully programmable. Transitions between "high" and "low" on these pins produce feedback codes on the RS-232 ports. This enables the CP7317RS to control an RS-232 controllable device via its I/O ports.
The CP7317RS also provides the capability to activate contact closure relays via RS-232 commands. The CP7317RS provides four Relay Ports on five 5-pin Terminal Block connectors. Relay Port 1 spans two connectors and offers 8 single-pole single-throw (SPST) type relays. Relay Port 2 consists of 4 SPST type relays common together and (2) sets of 2 SPST isolated relays. The (2) sets of 2 SPST relays are also identified as Port 3 and Port 4. Subsequently, Port 2, 3, and 4 can be treated as a single Port (Port 2) with 8 relays or as three independent ports (Port 2 with 4 relays and Port 3 & 4 with 2 relays each).
ALTINEX offers Windows 95/98 compatible software for the CP7317RS which allows it to be setup and controlled using a PC computer. This software is available for downloading at no charge from the ALTINEX software download section.
The CP7317RS is 1U high, 1/2 rack wide and may be rack-mounted using optional hardware.
