The V-Matrix® Enclosure is a 10U high, 19" wide rack-mount steel card cage. It can hold up to 16 input cards and 16 output cards, and also houses the dual power supply, control communication module, and the Matrix Engine™, which performs the actual signal routing. A single enclosure with the standard 128x128 Matrix Engine can route up to 128 input signal sources to up to 128 output signal destinations. Up to 10 enclosures can be used in parallel to switch large numbers of complex signals. For instance, 3 enclosures may be used to switch up to 128 HDTV sources in Y, Pb, Pr format to up to 128 destinations; 9 enclosures could be used to switch HTDV video + 5.1 surround audio.

Control of the system is accomplished primarily via RS-232, with an optional front-panel touch-pad. The back panel also provides a 10 Base-T connection for future network control capabilities. Protocol for input/output selection is both powerful and simple, involving basic, easy-to-understand ASCII commands.
