Setting up HyperTerminal for Multi Tasker Control

Printable Version |

HyperTerminal is a part of the Windows communication components that allows user to interface with RS-232 or TCP/IP devices. The following steps describe setting up the terminal for controlling Multitasker.

  1. Determine if the HyperTerminal is installed on you machine. From the Start Menu press All Programs:

Select HyperTerminal

  1. If HyperTerminal is not available on your computer or the HyperTerminal folder is empty then download copy of HyperTerminal from this web site: http://www.hilgraeve.com/
  2. On startup, enter the Setup name “MultiTasker” and then select COM port. It is important to know which COM port is connected to MultiTasker.
If you are using USB to RS-232 adapter, then check which COM port is assigned to this adapter.
To check COM port assignment follow these steps:
    1. From Start menu right click on My Computer
    2. Select Properties and then select Hardware Tab.
    3. Click on Device Manager
    4. Click on the + sign next to Ports
    5. This will show you the Ports assignments
  3. Set the correct Baud rate as shown. Note that there is no Hardware protocol available with Multitasker
  4. The next thing is to set the Echo ON so that you can see characters as you type. From the HyperTerminal menu select File, then Properties and finally Select tab Settings

  5. Click on the ASCII Setup and Click on Echo. Follow by OK and now you are ready to communicate with MultiTasker.

  6. Make sure the terminal is connected by pressing Connect button and looking at the bottom left side of the HyperTerminal screen.

  7. Finally make sure to use Altinex provided RS-232 cable. This cable has only 3 pins pass through: 2,3 and 5. Cables with all pins pass through will not work since some of the pins on the MultiTasker RS-232 connector are used for other purpose.
  8. Connect cable between computer and MultiTasker and turn MultiTasker on and off. After initialization you should see Ready displayed on the screen.

  9. The communication has been established successfully.
